Pre Digital and Digital Compositing

Pre digital composting is combining a series of several images together to create either a much larger image or add things into the images that did not exist within it in the first place. The most common type of composting in this day and age is the digital compositing where other aspects are digitally edited into the image such as the feature image of this post.

Matting is a form of compositing and this can be done via digi mattes (digital matte paintings) or by old school matte paintings. Mattes enable the attributes already in the image to be matted out while the setting around them is being created they are then composited together this is when existing and pre existing elements are combined.
